By free I mean that the developer gets nothing in return. The game is already devalued by giving away a "free" demo. People have different opinions about game pricing and whether or not pricing to low or too high devalues the game. If that is the case why shouldn't you get paid for it. Maybe all they wanted was the enjoyment of playinig the demo. But because of time, short attention span, whatever, they only chose to play the demo and were satisfied. They actually may have really enjoyed it. It is wrong to assume that the 99% didn't enjoy your game. 99 out of 100 people will never buy your game! They will download, look and enjoy your hard work, and you never get a dime. The cost of developing the demo is the same as the cost of developing the full game.

In any other business, if you were to write a business plan and state that you only have a 1% conversion rate, your business would be destined to fail. With an average conversion rate of 1%, the "Try before you Buy" model is horrible. IMHO opinion the current Trial-to-Purchase model is BROKEN!
